Q: Why should I get palliative care?
A: Palliative care's focus is to ease stress and improve overall quality of life for anyone, of any age at any stage of a serious life limiting illness. Dealing with a serious illness can be overwhelming to your mind, body and family. Palliative care providers can help build a team that making coping with illness easier for you, your family, loved ones and caregivers. Palliative care helps you live more comfortably with additional medical, social, and emotional supportive services to cope.

Q: Does referral to palliative care mean I'm dying?
A: No. Receiving palliative care does not mean you're dying. In fact, recent research indicates that palliative care can help people live longer by addressing pain and reducing stress. Being referred to palliative care does mean that you are dealing with difficult medical problems that cause pain and other physical symptoms you may need help managing. Palliative care can also help with helping you and your family through emotional uncertainty that comes along with having a chronic illness.
Q: Can I still go to the hospital and get treatments while on palliative care?
A: Yes, palliative care is a service designed to follow while you pursue treatment options.
Q: Is palliative care covered by insurance?
A: Palliative care is covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most commercial insurance companies. Provider visits are billed like as a specialist visit.
Q: How can I get resources for my aging parent?
A: Enroll in palliative care with Preferred Providers and meet with our palliative care social worker who can help patients and families navigate community resources.

Q: What do I do if it's too hard for my elderly loved one to get out to the doctor anymore?
A: Call us here at Preferred Providers or submit a screening request. We specialize in primary care house calls for the elderly who are medically homebound and are struggling to make it out of the house to get to their regular primary care provider. Once you are screened through the intake process, we can schedule you for an in-home primary care provider visit and become your primary care team.

Q: Can your provider see my loved one if they live in a group home or assisted living?
A: Yes! Our providers see patients wherever they call home, including group homes, independent and assisted living communities.
